For over a year my phone would ring pretty much every Thursday night around 8pm. It would be a confirmation call from Dana Farber for my appointment that following Monday morning. I have heard the recording so many times that I can practically recite the message from memory. I am calling to confirm your appointment for Monday...........(date/time)......Please park at 450 Brookline Avenue in the parking garage, please bring a photo ID, and arrive 15 minutes early to your appointment, be sure to check in on the 2nd floor for your blood draw appointment.
I would hang up and either fill Tim in one the time or call my parents and then my dad would calculate what time they would need to leave their home in order to pick me up so we could make it to my appointment on time. Many times my parents had to wake up at 4:30 in the morning so we could get to Boston for 9 am. They never once complained, and they were never late. They gave up their lives in order to save mine and they were more than happy to step up to the plate. To most people Thursday night means the weekend is coming to me it is a reminder; To thank God the transplant worked, appreciate the fact I was born into a loving family and married into one that was always there to support me and thank God for Joseph Antin and my entire team at Dana Farber!
